Spray Texture Solutions
My can sprayed out a “blob” of texture when I first depressed the nozzle.
Sometimes this occurs when the can is not shaken well enough. This should clear, and the rest of your material should be fine.
Not spraying:
Not spraying, just oozing: Remember to shake can vigorously for 1 minute before use. You should hear the ball rattle inside.
My can will not spray at all.
Try shaking well or heating up with warm water.
My can sprays out in a stream, and doesn’t atomize like it should.
Try heating it up by running it under warm water. It might be too cool to atomize.
I am having trouble getting a fine orange peel pattern.
Turn the dial back and forth a couple times, then back to fine. Try spraying again. If this does not work, try running warm water over the can.
I can not get as heavy a pattern as I would like.
Make sure dial is set to heavy (counterclockwise). Also, try running cold water over the can for the heaviest pattern.
The stem of my nozzle looks bent or deformed, and I can’t get it back in the can.
It may have been damaged when it was inserted in the can. Return it to where it was originally purchased.
Texture Gun Solutions
Not spraying:
Something may be stuck in opening – take off front plate and clear behind and use Reamer.
O-Rings may be out of place or not properly lubricated. Use a small amount of silicone grease only. W-D 40 is not recommended.
Gun won’t spray texture at all:
Is breather cap punctured and open (breathing freely)? Is bottle on top of gun, not bottom? Is bottle close to empty? Shake texture down into chamber. Clean nozzle with reamer or check for obstruction. If using Acoustic texture, make sure gun is set on 4C. If you are mixing your own texture, it cannot be an extremely coarse grade.
Texture drips all over the floor:
It is normal to get some drippage when spraying texture. It’s a messy job and flooring should be covered. Try re-adjusting front plate and cleaning nozzle area. Make sure to finish each stroke to the stop. If drippage is excessive it could mean a warped front plate.
Texture sprays out in a stream. (Does not atomize) Why?
Is front plate attached to gun? Was the gun ever disassembled for cleaning? If it was, sometimes the o-rings are not put back in the correct grooves (no o-ring in middle groove) or not sealed with silicone grease allowing an air leak. If gun is not sealed correctly it will not create enough pressure to atomize the texture.
Is breather cap open and hole punctured?
Finish each stroke to the stop. Clean nozzle area with reamer. If texture bottle is full, is the texture blocking the breather hole? (gun tilted downward down low wall)
Texture runs on wall:
Is user standing too close to wall? Texture may be too thin. Also, may be applying it too heavily. Remember . . . it is not a total coverage texture.
My gun is excessively hard to pump, why?
Is nozzle clear of any dried product? Use reamer to check for obstruction. It does take some effort to pump the guns. (which is one of the reasons it is not recommended for large jobs)
Is air coming out of nozzle when pumped?
It must be pumped HARD and BRISKLY to test.
O Rings:
1st and last internal grooves house O-Rings. The middle groove traps air.
If middle groove is blocked it will be hard to pump and nothing will happen (nozzle will not come back).
If O-Ring(s) are missing or not properly greased the air will not be trapped and it may be hard to pump or the nozzle will not come all the way back.
Use clear silicone grease from an auto store to lubricate the gun/o-rings. It does not take much grease to do the job.
Piston Assembly:
U-shape goes toward the front of gun.
Plates:
Front 2 face the front of gun. Back plate faces the back.
Side Lever:
Makes nozzle go back further.
Troubleshooting Questions:
What type of texture is being used? (Premixed, Splatter/ Acoustic, mud compound)
Is breather hole punched and open?
What are your gun settings?
What type of splatter are you trying to attain?
Standing how far away?
Pumping briskly to the stop?
What is happening or not happening?
Brand new gun not spraying?
Plastic piece may be floating in front of nozzle – Use REAMER
